Central Hardin High School is located on the outskirts of Elizabethtown, a city of approximately 22,500. It is one of three high schools in the Hardin County School System. The school is a school-based decision-making school. The council of twelve members, including two administrators, six teachers, and four parents, began operation in December 1995.
Central Hardin was established as a high school in 1990. West Hardin High School and East Hardin High School were consolidated to form Central Hardin. East Hardin and West Hardin Middle Schools are feeder schools for Central Hardin’s enrollment of approximately 1,850. Central Hardin offers numerous Advanced Placement and Dual Credit opportunities through partnerships with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Campbellsville University, and Western Kentucky University.
Economy of the community is based on agriculture/farming, industry, service jobs, medical, small business, and military. The community is served by Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. The community is very supportive of the school; each year, hundreds of volunteers log tens of thousands of hours to help maintain and improve the school.

Structure and Scheduling Pattern
The school day begins at 8:25 am and ends at 3:25 pm. A trimester schedule divides the school day into five periods of approximately 72 minutes each. Students take five classes each trimester for a total of 7.5 possible credits each year. The students have a choice of over 140 offerings per year. Twenty-six credits are required for graduation.
